Death on the Dearborn
While transporting a captured renegade, Montana Territorial Marshall, Levy Lowery, is asked by the townspeople of Dearborn, Montana to investigate the shooting deaths of a prominent citizen, William Moore and his wife Hattie, found dead in their house in 1886. Lowery’s pursuit of the killer leads him to multiple potential suspects including William’s former business partner, Ezra Sanders, Hattie’s rumored lover, schoolteacher J. C. McDonald, James Lee, the brother-in-law of Hattie, engaged in a feud with William or the stark possibility of a murder-suicide. As he digs even deeper, Lowery discovers false accusations, betrayals and hostility related to the coming railroad that threatens William’s freighting business. While some of the guilty are brought to justice, others escape, deepening the mystery of the Moores’ fate.
